Custom Properties Crash Course (New CSS Variables in GenerateBlocks)

While using CSS Variables inside of things like our font size, padding, or gap is new to GeneateBlocks in the 1.8 release (out today, by the way!) — this is not a new concept to CSS.

In fact, it’s not even a new concept to the Generate ecosystem. If you’ve been using the GeneratePress theme, then you’ve already been using CSS variables and probably just didn’t know it.

In this video I’m going to quickly show you how CSS variables work, talk about why they are useful, and show some practical examples of how I intend to start using them inside my GenreateBlocks builds. With these concepts, you’ll be able to build more consistent, maintainable, and scalable websites — all while using a more simplistic system.
