It’s funny how one tiny thing can make or break an entire day.
An email from a client telling you how much they love their new website and thanking you for all your hard work can instantly make you feel 10 feet tall.
But a site getting infected — even if it only takes an hour to get things restored and cleaned up — makes everything feel like its on fire.
Nevermind the 999 other things you did on that day, one little thing will change how you answer “how was your day?” when you sit down for dinner.
We’re not quite to the end of September yet, but already this has been one of my best financial months in the nearly 10 years I’ve been operating my business. With over 100 previous attempts at “best month ever” already in the books, you’d think that all the stars would have to align to make September 2026 the one.
But that wasn’t it at all.
My projections back on the 1st showed this month might actually be below average based on what was in my pipeline. And that projection probably would have ended up spot on, except…
One morning I had an idea. But instead of chewing on it, or writing it down on my to-do list for some day when I had more time, I stopped what I was doing and took action. That follow through not only changed my month, it’s going to have a noticeable impact on my entire year.
The rest of the month was totally average. In fact, there were a lot of things working against me. But it only took one thing to pull up the average and turn things around.
No matter if it’s our day, our month, or our year, we tend to picture a giant chasm between where we are and where we want to be. So we think, we plan, we wait for some “extra time” to show up in our calendar.
Next thing you know you feel miles away from where you want to be. And the longer we wait, the bigger the gap grows.
But the gap isn’t the space between our current situation and our ideal future, it’s the space between thinking and doing.
The plan will never be perfect. Things won’t go exactly the way you pictured them. There is no future version of your calendar with plenty of extra time in it.
You don’t need a giant leap, just a single step.
