You know that satisfying feeling when you reach in the couch cushions to find your ear buds and pull out a crumpled up $20 bill? Chances are it was yours in the first place, but it feels like free money.
It’s easy to get caught up in the rat race of chasing new clients, but I’m willing to bet you have more than just a few twenty dollar bills stuffed in your agency’s metaphorical couch.
Today, I thought I’d share 5 of the most common places you can stop leaks and uncover revenue opportunities hidden in plain sight.
1. Audit your subscriptions. Obvious, right? But when was the last time you pulled out your bank statement and verified you’re actually using everything you’re paying for? I do this every quarter and always find something I’m wasting money on. It might only be $10 here and $20 there, but it adds up.
2. Audit your invoices. Again, pretty obvious — but I’m shocked how many times agency owners I’ve talked to have found clients that have gone months (or even years 😭) without being billed for hosting, domain renewals, or any of the other little things that slip through the cracks. It can be hard to recover that cash retroactively (you’ll probably just have to eat it), but better late than never!
3. Audit your pricing. Whether it’s cost of living, cost of doing business, or changes in process — pricing is not a fixed number. When was the last time you put pen to paper and calculated how profitable your services are? Most businesses are adjusting pricing annually, at a minimum. But it’s important to update pricing based on your costs, workload, skills, and the market for your services.
4. Existing clients. New clients are exciting — but existing clients have already proven they’re willing to give you money. Are you certain they know everything you offer? Chances are they aren’t looking at your website regularly (or at all). A simple “Did you know we can also help with…” email can unlock extra revenue.
5. Actually bill for your work. I know you’re just a nice person, and it only took a second, and you’re worried your client will be mad… but you gotta quit doing so much for free. Those 5-minute fixes add up, and the best way to serve your client is to have a healthy, thriving business. I’ve found clients don’t mind paying — they just don’t like unexpected invoices. As long as you’re transparent, most (reasonable) people are perfectly happy to pay you (and actually want to!).
Of course, I don’t know your business like you do — but I’d be willing to bet there’s at least $100 (and potentially thousands) worth of advice in this email… if you take action.
You don’t need a new funnel or 100 cold emails to grow your revenue — sometimes you just need to check the couch cushions.
